We’re extremely lucky down here in sunny Cornwall. We’ve got a wonderful coastline, fabulous countryside, some of the country’s finest restaurants and places to visit and – the amazing Kneehigh Theatre. Over the years, this internationally acclaimed company has produced some truly brilliant shows and this year they’ve surpassed themselves. This new show, 946, is on at their aptly named Asylum Theatre situated in the grounds of the Lost Gardens of Heligan until August 23, then it’s off to Birmingham and probably the West End. The script, based on best-selling author Michael Morpurgo’s Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips, was written by Kneehigh’s director Emma Rice (soon to forsake them to take over at The Globe in London). It’s a sad, funny, true life drama about an incident at Slapton Sands in Devon towards the end of WW2. As ever, they’ve added some great music and if you fancy a memorable night out, you’ve still go time to get some tickets – and you can also take in the Lost Gardens as well. Oh, and if you stay here (we’re just an hour away), we might even throw in a bottle of something or other to help the night along. But better be quick….
